Upon arriving at the much-talked-about newly-formed Animal Farm, I was surprised to see that, instead of a democracy amongst the animals I had been told to expect, a single pig named Napoleon was in charge of the whole operation.
This surprised me as I had been told of the many wonders that the animals had managed to achieve without human assistance; even running an effective system of democracy no less - a feat that we humans rarely achieve. You can imagine then, my surprise upon arriving and seeing that they had failed in democracy after all, and formed a dictatorship.
Don't get me wrong, the dictatorship was effective. Napoleon coerced his followers to work their hardest and achieve many things in hope of a better life. However, in my personal opinion, Snowball would have been the better choice for running this government. Ah, Snowball! From what I have heard, he was excellent at making plans. Why, when those farmers sought to reclaim the farm, Snowball's ambush completely destroyed him! I have also been told of his ability to inspire his followers and fill them with hope; a quality that I admire in leaders. Yes, I think that if I had been one of these animals, my first choice would have definitely been Snowball.
Leadership is a funny thing. Many people can take it up and go through the motions, nay, even do well at it in the terms of achieving results; but in my opinion an effective leader has certain qualities which I look for before placing my trust in them. For instance, I look for a leader that respects his followers. Out of all my idyllic desires in a leader, this is number one! For what is a leader if he does not respect his followers? Merely a boss, a commander. Their time in leadership will neither be respected nor enjoyed by their followers, and eventually they will be overthrown. The leader that can inspire their followers however (and do so without the use of manipulative propaganda, but through their own interactions instead), has true power in the form of a devoted following.
Unfortunately, I must pause my ramblings as I have just been informed by Napoleon's lovely dogs that my visiting time is over and I must return to the town. I wish this farm good luck; who knows, maybe it will work out alright!
