On the self assessment sheet that I completed through this class, I gave myself an 8/10. Some strategies that I already use in order to understand the text include reading different types of text differently, reading all of the material in one sitting, and previewing a section of the material before reading it. Some strategies that I could work on in order to improve my understanding of written materials include highlighting important or interesting parts of the text, annotating the material to record my own thoughts on its contents, and pausing / reflecting more on the text after I finish reading it.
Personally, I feel that I am a strong reader and that I have been that way ever since I learned to read. While I was learning to read (at around 4 or 5) I originally hated it. However, since I was around 7 years old, I have loved reading and I read voraciously.
When reading textbooks and other reference materials, I generally like to summarize key pieces of information in my own words in order to understand it better. I also like to make predictions while I'm reading literature and observe if my predictions were correct.
All in all, I feel that I am a very confident and proficient reader that uses many strategies in order to understand and enjoy the text.
